Is There a Drastic Difference in Social Media Trends Between India and USA?

Social media is a huge landscape which undergoes a constant change. New trends, technologies, and features are emerging in every different country/religion/timezone ,and in this generation, social media isn’t only considered a platform for global connectivity but also a huge place for marketing. Consumer behavior has evolved over the years and this behavior varies in every country, every relation, and in every demographic. Estimated 4.9 billion people used social media in 2023. India and US both being powerful countries have some or the other specifications when it comes to social media and its trends and technologies. 

Though India is still considered a developing country, the country is growing fast in tech-enable sectors and as an economic and political force. The Indian subcontinent is considered the largest market for the top three social media platforms, Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp.  While most of its population lives in rural and suburban areas and is still considered as not fully up to date, Indians are the most Facebook users as compared to any other country. 

With the availability of cheap internet and growth in smartphone production, it  has pushed the rate of social media users in India, also with the introduction of 5G networks. 

An average of 72% of the US population uses at least one social platform mostly focusing on authentic short-term video trends with the rise of social media platform, TikTok. Facebook is a secondary choice now. Because of their fast lifestyle, one of the most popular US social media trends is Edutainment, which is quick educational information in a format of entertainment content on platforms like Twitter(X), Instagram, and TikTok. The photo-dumping trend is also one of the common trends that the US population follows. A series of posts in one go to summarize any large event is common, and mostly used in stories. The trend of influencer marketing is at its peak which is now spreading from the US to across the globe. Prioritizing nano and micro-influencers for marketing is a trend that opens a gate for marketers to reach out and create brand awareness for nice communities. Another revolutizing trend is using AI(Artificial Intelligence) generated tools. In activities like content creation, customer service, analyzing trends, and reach, AI has become a game changer which is now being adapted slowly by every other country. The US has set the trend for using social media as a search engine known as social search. Because of its creative appeal and summarized authentic results, it has become one of the biggest trends.  

 These differences highlight the variety of trends that are being generated all over the world and every country is adapting something or the other based on their needs and requirements. It solely depends on culture to prioritize trends that are most likely to fit into their norms. Most trends are globally accepted and used because of their versatility and creating a common interest which is the social media marketplace.
